Dorothy

We seldom titled our vessels but John Foelber dedicated this one to his grandmother-in-law, Dorothy Vertin Adams. A strong, loving woman who had to raise five children after her husband, Robert Adams, was killed in WWII.

She lived her entire life in the cold but beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. After her husband died she worked as a secretary at Vertin's Department Store, the family business. In the 1990s John was able to spend time with her in the quaint village of Calumet, MI where Dorothy was born and raised. They had many good conversations about small businesses, entrepreneurship, fresh lake trout, and how to make a proper old fashioned.

This vessel recalls the stunning snow-filled winters and spectacular sunsets of the area. There is also an ode to the copper mining industry of the region in the metallic colors John used and the "smokestack" reference of the top section.
